Visit the charity's profileSpecial Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community, where every single person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability. We are helping to make the world a better, healthier and more joyful place one athlete, one volunteer, one family member at a time.
The Special Olympics play an enormous role in bringing athletes together and giving them the opportunity to learn team spirit, to interact, negotiate, to have transactions. I think sport is one of the few areas or platforms that they can do it as intellectually disabled people. Special Olympics Sydney Upper North Shore Club parent
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Give your children as many opportunities as possible to go to sport. Apart from friendships and developing transactional and collaborative skills, it by and large keeps people fit. Special Olympics Sydney Upper North Shore Club parent
Kurt the owner is brilliant and coaches them privately. Ive always found it hard to find a mainstream coach so were very lucky. Special Olympics Sydney Upper North Shore Club parent
