Homelessness can happen to any one of us. It has no boundaries and lives & circumstances can change very quickly. No one wakes up & decides to be homeless, there are many reasons & life changing moments that can lead to sleeping rough on the street or sofa surfing night after night. We help people to change lives through a breadth of vital services. We provide homeless outreach, rough sleeper provision, emergency bed space, accommodation, family mediation, counselling, community foodbank, lunch club, support & engagement, complex needs support and have a number of furniture stores providing low cost quality furniture and new white goods. Thanks for supporting us & helping to raise much needed income. The impact of COVID-19 has been felt by everyone. Lives have changed, demand for our services has increased and our income has been significantly affected. We could not continue to do what we do without the help of others. Your help is never more needed than now - Thank you

Story

Jessie stayed at YMCA Burton from January 2025 to May 2026 after becoming homeless following a relationship breakdown. She had experienced depression, anxiety, learning difficulties and issues with cannabis and alcohol.

During her time with us, staff supported Jessie with budgeting, debt management and preparing for independent living. She set up a payment plan for council tax debt and learned to manage her money more effectively. She also received emotional support while dealing with difficulties maintaining contact with her son.

Jessie made significant progress, including stopping cannabis use and improving her financial management. In February 2026, she was awarded Band 1 housing status, allowing her to move towards her own home.

Staff supported Jessie with furniture, white goods and the final stages of her move. Jessie successfully moved into her own flat in May 2026 is now living independently.
