Story

Enham Sunday Riders do Land's End to Andover

Thanks for visiting the fundraising page of Enham Sunday Riders, we are a group of six friends who are keen on cycling, we are organising a sponsored bike ride from Land's End to our home town of Andover (Hampshire) over the weekend of 26th - 28th June. We intend to raise funds for both Headway and for Clic Sargent.

We thought as two of group had benefited from both these charities that we would try and give back, more than we had benefited. If everyone who was able to do this, by repaying what they had benefited, more people could be helped

Why Clic Sargent?

http://www.clicsargent.org.uk

Last year a member of the group Paul Robinson's 4 year old daughter Daisy was admitted into Winchester hospital with severe abdominal pain. After seeing several doctors and the senior paediatrician she was diagnosed as having appendicitis.

It was imperative that she had the operation straight away; unfortunately they are unable to perform the operation in Winchester on such a young child. Therefore she was rushed to Southampton General Hospital, where they had the specialist surgical team that could perform the operation. Due to a bed shortage the only available bed for Daisy was on the Piam Brown ward (which is a ward that specialises in the treatment of those children that are unfortunate to have Cancer). Daisy had a successful operation and spent several days on Piam Brown ward before being transferred to general child's ward and later discharged.

From the several days that Daisy was on the Piam Brown ward, Paul was touched by the dedication of the supportive and professional medical staff, but even more so by the facilities, resources and support that Clic Sargent provides for the children and their families. Whilst Daisy did not have Cancer Their family still had the benefit of the facilities that were provided by Clic Sargent. Paul therefore feels that is only right (as a thank you) that he should repay Clic Sargent for the use of the facilities and therefore ensuring that future children and families that find themselves unfortunate to be on the Piam Brown ward are able to benefit, making their stay more comfortable.
