Story
In February 2017 Gabriela Duch, Daniel Absolon and I will be running the El Cruce ultra marathon linking Argentina and Chile over 3 days and a distance of 100km.
Peace Brigades International and the Alliance for Lawyers at Risk provide protection and support to human rights defenders in Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, Indonesia, Kenya and Nepal. PBI works in countries where communities experience violent conflict, intimidation and repression, and where those at the forefront of human rights' defence are at particular risk of reprisals simply for the work they do. PBI aims to create the conditions necessary for the transformation of conflicts from within the affected community: Their work includes:
-Sending field volunteers to provide protective accompaniment to at-risk human rights defenders;
-Advocacy and policy work on behalf of at-risk human rights defenders, including with the EU, UN and Organization of American States; and
-Providing training to human rights defenders in affected communities.
Human Rights Defenders are incredibly brave and courageous individuals, who risk their lives in order to defend the rights of the most vulnerable communities.
The support provided by PBI can be life-saving:
"The death sentences against each and every one of us have not been carried out, only because we are not alone, because we have Peace Brigade International's accompaniment and unconditional defence" - Francisco Campo, CREDHOS, Colombia.
With this project I am hoping to help PBI reach its target of raising £35,000 in 2016 through it's Invisible Mandelas appeal, in commemoration of PBI's 35th anniversary. More info here: http://peacebrigades.org.uk/invisiblemandelas
Any money you donate will be match-funded by a group of PBI's UK supporters so anything you are able to contribute will have double the impact!
Thank you!!!
