Event: Asics London 10k 2021, on 25 July 2021
The London 10K has been the central challenge event of the SpecialEffect calendar for over a decade. At the start of 2020, we were hoping to gather our biggest team EVER to hit the streets of London. With the current situation, we're going virtual!

Story

Hello!

I have run on the British 10k SpecialEffect team since 2018 and there really is no other charity or event like it. They do amazing work with amazing clients, enabling  people to lead full lives by giving them the technology and hardware adaptations they require to be able to participate in activities such as gaming and communicating with others.

You can read about my 2020 antics below but.. On Sunday we are running together again in London!! 🥰 Please help this wonderful charity if you can.

As a gamer, I am passionate about this charity and the work they do for inclusion.. I know that the July 10k is a massive fundraiser for them but (quite understandably) this is not happening in July now. Not to be deterred from fundraising I am taking on two back garden events!  As the OCR season is also severely affected by Covid-19, RatRace events have been postponed until 2021, but virtual options have been made available!!! Runstock (5-7 June) means I’ll be running as much as I can for the three days to claim ‘lap bands’ for each 5k, and my Dirty Weekend event will be on Saturday 9th May.... 13 miles of running, stopping for various exercises, obstacles and silly challenges every km. Both of these events look likely to happen between the back garden and the treadmill as we stay safe  at home which makes it even more of a challenge! I will obviously be spamming up everyone’s social media with pictures and videos, but I hope, if you can, you’ll consider dropping a donation  into this page.

SpecialEffect are amazing, and I’m so sad to consider the impact the lost July event may have.... I wouldn’t consider 13 miles in the back garden for just anyone! 😃

Edit: - I've now added a Virtual Spartan Super, Virtual Half Marathon and the SpecialEffect Virtual 10k to the roster of garden events! :-)

Edit - Due to friends assuring me I could do it  - Spartan BEAST done 😱✅

From the charity:

The British 10K is SpecialEffect's longest standing fundraising event, and back in the day a hard core of games industry professionals made something of a name for themselves by completing the race dressed as their favourite video games characters - a tradition that has continued to this day!One thing that has changed is the size of the team, which in the last few years has grown to over 100 runners. In fact, in 2017 SpecialEffect won the Biggest Charity Team Award not bad for a small charity from West Oxfordshire! But the main thing is that over the years the money raised by the British 10k team has enabled the charity to help literally hundreds more seriously disabled people to enjoy access to video games. It really is no exaggeration to say that this is the central race in the SpecialEffects events calendar.
