Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Silverstone Half Marathon to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Like many families ours has been affected by cancer.
My eldest son, Peter (who is now nearly 21), was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in November 1995. Thanks to the fantastic care of the haematology and children's ward at Stoke Mandeville Hospital Peter made a full recovery. Peter made many friends with the other children who were cancer sufferers at the hospital whilst he was going through his treatment; some were fortunate and survived, others were less fortunate. Since Peter went through his treatment research, often funded by charities such as Cancer Research UK, has meant constantly improving success rates with the treatments.
Unfortunately, I have also lost a number of family members through cancer, particularly my mum Pam who died in 2001 (aged 62) and my mother in law Christine Hill (who died in 2011 aged 59). Two great people who were taken too early by cancer.
Any donations that you can make may be crucial in ensuring that the successes of treatments for cancer continue to improve.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I am running the half marthon with three colleagues, Michelle Thomas, Richard Mallinson and Dave Curtis. Michelle and Richard are running for the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Families Association; SSAFA is a national charity committed to helping and supporting those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve, and the families of both. Dave is running for Make a Wish which helps children with life limiting conditions realise a dream.
