The Challengers Firewalk · 23 September 2017
We are embarking on an epic firewalk, yes flames six foot high and coals well yes as hot as coals!
Both being the adventurous types, it's in the genes, we have taken part in many different challenges but this one I have to admit is terrifying. It's going to take a very stiff drink and an awful lot of mental control. Actually I don't think I've been as nervous as this about a challenge before.
So why do it you ask?
Amanda's story:
As many of you will know I work at challengers, at the sharp end. Before Challengers came into my life, like many others, I had not encountered very much disability in my life so was very unaware of the issues facing families of disabled children. I had not asked myself those all important questions: Where do disabled children go to play? How and when do their Mum's and Dad's get a break? Well the simple answer is without organisations like Challengers they don't. So what if your child is severely disabled then where do you go for some fun with other children? Challengers of course! Their USP: to include everyone and never exclude any child.
So that's why I ask you to donate to our challenge - Challengers is simply amazing!
Emily's story:
I used to be one of the 650 play & youth workers at Challengers. I worked across some of the Play, Youth and Young Adult schemes, I had fun with all sorts of young people. As a young person myself it taught me so much, I learnt amazing skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life, I learnt that everyone deserves the same chance in life and that chance is possible for all young people. The work Challengers do is so crucial to support parents and show young people and the world that they are capable of achieving given the right chance!
Please help us to help Challengers continue with their mission! #everypennycounts
Thank you
Amanda & Emily xx
