Story

We are a group of intrepid Chipstead friends, who take on a challenge each year to push ourselves out of our comfort zones (and Chipstead!).

This year we have decided to take on the epic task of completing the 3 Peaks Challenge which involves walking the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours.

So on Friday 14th June 2013, we will start off in Scotland at Ben Nevis, the highest of the three peaks at 1344 metres (4409 ft).  After that we will drive down to the Lake District and climb Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England at 978 metres (3,209 ft).  Then the final leg of the challenge will be climbing Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales at an altitude of 1,085 metres (3,560 ft).

Training has been rigorous, with fitness levels of the team improving greatly every week.  They are all completely committed to the challenge and to raising money for the Great Ormond Street Hospital, and specifically Anna's Brighter Future Fund.

An excellent cause

On 1st April last year Jess and David, parents at Chevening School, sadly lost their beautiful 14 month old daughter Anna to a rare and incurable disease. This is Anna's story.....

Anna was a healthy baby when she was struck down by a mystery illness on 19 January 2012, aged 11 months. She was taken into intensive care following seizures and eight weeks later at Great Ormond Street Hospital, following numerous intrusive tests, was diagnosed with Alpers' Disease, a rare Mitochondrial disease (see http://www.healthline.com/galecontent/alpers-disease for more information). She only lived for another two weeks after diagnosis.

Currently there is no cure or even treatment for Alpers'. However in Anna's memory her parents want to help change that and they have agreed to raise £85K to fund essential laboratory equipment needed for a new project to better understand the causes of Mitochondrial disease.
