Event: SimplyHealth Great North Run 2018, on 9 September 2018
In memory of Sophie Greenall
We have 70 runners taking part in the biggest most iconic half marathon in the world which takes place on 9th September in Newcastle. They have all been affected by sepsis and are fundraising for us.

Story

On 9th September 2018, I’m returning to Newcastle to take on the Great North Run Half Marathon with my dad. It’s going to be a big challenge, but it’s all in the name of a great cause. I’ll be raising money for the UK Sepsis Trust, in memory of my dear friend Sophie Greenall (lovingly known as “Sophie G”), who tragically lost her life to sepsis on 28th November 2008 at the age of 12. The UK Sepsis Trust’s goal is to end preventable deaths from sepsis by providing earlier diagnosis and treatment across the UK, which would save at least 14,000 lives a year. My dad and I are aiming to raise money to support the charity’s work and mark the 10th anniversary of Sophie’s death later this year – any donations however small would be hugely appreciated

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
