I'm Cycling for Change

2020 Cycle for Change · 1 April 2020 to 30 April 2020 ·
I'm planning to ride at least 500km in April. My original plan was for 200km for £200, then I doubled it, and now we're more than halfway through the month I've upped it again as I'm feeling more competitive (with myself).
These are worrying times and many of us are focusing on supporting our families and our communities. That's obviously no bad thing but it's also important to consider the global impact of this pandemic. Those living in countries with poorer healthcare systems, in refugee camps and in poverty will not be as lucky as we are here.
Furthermore we mustn't forget that climate change, natural disasters, drought, famine, war and other humanitarian disasters haven't stopped just because the world's attention is on coronavirus right now.
Oxfam's ability to fundraise has been severely limited due to the closure of both the high street and online shops and the cancellation of events and festivals. They urgently need donations to be able to keep delivering the groundbreaking development work, to respond to the impact of coronavirus on those less fortunate and to respond in other emergency situations.
I'll be doing a combination of rides on the turbo and outside (when the weather's good enough and for as long as we're allowed to) and posting them on my Strava page, www.strava.com/athletes/23555248, as well as giving updates here.
As many of you will know, I'm already a keen cyclist so maybe this won't necessarily be a huge challenge for me, but I promise that's not that case. 500km in a month will definitely be a challenge, it's far more than I've done in a month before. Plus I'm still working full time and keeping up my running (which is my first sport really). Also, riding a turbo for more than about 5 minutes is a challenge for anyone and I'm not relishing spending much of my month in a sweaty conservatory! Please help me to stay sane by donating!
