Bring on the 2023 London Marathon!
As many of you will know, I signed up in 2020 with 12 weeks to go till race day. I set out a 12 week training plan with a view to support and raise money for Sports Aid, run the marathon in 4 hours or less, and tick something off my bucket list that has been on it since I arrived in the UK in 2016.
Due to covid the event in 2020 was cancelled 5 weeks before race day! I was gutted! My training plan was going really well and I was excited to finally do it. Three years on and I am finally ready to finish what I started in 2020!
I am really excited to be running the marathon in support of Sports Aid. This charity supports over 1000 young, promising athletes every year. They provide financial support to help towards their training and competition costs, along with recognition and development opportunities. It gives these amazing young athletes a major boost in the early stages of their careers!
It’s charity I am very passionate about, being a keen sports woman myself! Growing up I was fortunate enough to compete in a range of sports at school in Australia. It’s a big place, so competition often required me to travel across the country and luckily for me, I could rely on my parents for help. However, not everyone is so fortunate.
While I was never going to make it as a pro, I have continued to play Touch Rugby at an international level. In 2022 I was part of the England Women’s 27s team that won the European Championships. It was an unforgettable experience and one I feel very fortunate to have been a part of. I have been selected for the training squad again this year so I will be trying to fit all my marathon training around the Touch Rugby season and England selections.
Events like the London Marathon allow SportsAid to continue to be able to support the inspiring, determined young athletes that we have in the UK!
I will aim to log most of my training using my Garmin watch and Strava. This page is linked to my Strava so you can follow along my training journey with me.
In 2019 I took part in the London Landmark 1/2 Marathon and set a goal of finishing in 2 hours… I beat that with a 1 hour 42! I was super surprised and proud.
So, here we go again – 4 hours is the target! Let’s see if we can beat it!
