Story
This March I will be upping my game and run 100km in aid of Solent Mind.
I started running again after a very long break last summer and worked my way up from couch to 5k, to 10k, to half marathon. Running makes me feel good, keeps me fit and has certainly helped me mentally on some days throughout the last year. I often go on a run before work and enjoy how peaceful and quiet it still is out there. Being physically active (not just running) is proven to have a positive impact on mental health.
Why Solent Mind? The last year has been tough on everyone and for many it will have been an even bigger challenge to cope with life than usual. Mental health is important and everyone should get the help they need. I know a lot of people that have needed ad hoc help or are battling a mental health condition every day. Help is as important as awareness as there is still a stigma attached and many people a worried to ask for help.
I learned about Solent Mind and the amazing work they do during a mental wellbeing week at work a few years ago. Being a local and also somewhat smaller local charity was also important to me when choosing a charity.
If I reach my target, I will match every additional £10 raised with one £1 up to a maximum of £50.
