Update 28/06/10
We made it and completed our task of climbing Ben Nevis, Helvellyn and Snowdon inside of 24 hours. We enjoyed wonderful sunny weather on both Ben Nevis and Snowdon and it was maybe (dare i say it, as the last Red Funnel team suffered rain and high winds) a little too warm for a quick walk up and down a mountain. Helvellyn was climbed starting at 0120 and although it was dark and there was a cold wind blowing, it was a pleasant climb and it was light by 0330 when we reached the bottom. We are still fund raising hard to reach our target and would appreciate any donations that you can spare.
Update 16/06/10
Sadly we've needed to substitute a team member and now Lee Newsham has replaced Stu Wainwright - good luck we'll see you through! Everything is now in place and we are as ready as we're going to be, we just need a final push on the fundraising, so please anything you can give will help a very worthy cause!
Update 09/06/2010:
With just over 1 week to go, preperations are in full swing. Stu, Ann, Alistair and Dave 'Walked the Wight' (26 miles) last month and Dave even did the long route up Ben Nevis (climbing Carn Mor Dearg first) last week when in Scotland. I managed to take plenty of pictures for the team to look and cry at!
We need to pledge the exact amount that we will donate on Friday 18th June and we are still very hopeful of raising the £10,000 target, so please donate to help a very worthy cause.
Once again, Red Funnel has submitted a team to participate in the Sailors Society Three Peak Challenge. The Sailor's Society operates in over 90 ports across the world, to provide facilities, welfare assistance and advice to seafarers and their families whenever and wherever this is needed.
The challenge is to climb three of the highest peaks within 24 hours - Ben Nevis (1344m), Helvellyn (950m) and Snowdon (1085m). The climbs will be both competitive and demanding and all participants will be pushed to their physical limits.
Team 1 from Red Funnel consists of Dave Nevin, Hi-Speed Manager, Alistair Sutton, Pontoon Attendant and Red Jet Commander Stu Wainwright.
Team 2 from Red Funnel consists of Red Jet Mates Brett Philips and Amed Abab and Anna Zujeva, Red Jet Cabin Attendant.
