Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Just giving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bassetlaw Hospice of the Good Shepherd gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Just giving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.

About Our Cause (written by Sam Greenwood):

On September 7th 2008 a group of Samantha Chapman’s friends along with Tim her husband will be attempting to run The Bupa Great Yorkshire 10k Run. We say attempting as we are the unfittest (with the exception of 3 or 4 marathon runners, who will be hoping to embarrass us) 30 something’s in the whole of South Yorkshire, and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong!

Sadly as most of you are aware Sam lost her courageous and long battle against cancer of May 24th 2008. I have never known anyone show strength, determination and courage like Sam showed all the way through her fight to beat cancer! She stayed positive, and to us her friends, never showed us her fear, so we could enjoy the time that Sam had left with us.

But that Sums Sam up – always thinking of others first!

Sam spent her final days in Bassetlaw hospice, the staff there are truly amazing and while carrying out a extremely difficult job every day, manage to make sure that the patients that they are helping are as comfortable as possible during their stay, and that the families and friends are treated with compassion and kindness. The grounds of the hospice are quiet, beautifully maintained and it is truly a serene place, the hospice rely on donations therefore in Sam’s memory we are now in 12 weeks of intensive training so we are able to run the full course.

I know that most of you will understand that for us the non-runners the four (ok three at a push) days of training that we are currently managing to maintain is extremely difficult, you could say that every morning is at this stage horrid, and most of us moan during every step we take, but as Sam never complained we continue to take a deep breath and carry on knowing that however painful it seems at the time, it will never compare to Sam went through.
So – I hope you all give generously, you are able to leave the name of the person you are sponsoring and a personal message about either Sam or the runner!

Thank you for continued love – friendship and support

Bassetlaw Hospice has for the last 11years provided specialist palliative care and support for patients with a life limiting illness. It provides Day Care services for up to ten patients a day, and a specialist six-bed roomed in patient unit for respite, symptom management and final phase care. It makes no charge for the service and aims to offer support to both patients and their families, adding hopefully life to days, when days cannot always be added to a life.
