Story

Hello!

24.8 UPDATE! Due to the recent closure of the air bridge between the UK and France, the 2020 London to Paris has been cancelled and the group are participating in an alternative challenge of the same magnitude, cycling coast to coast across the UK on the same dates. Sadly, James Ewing and Paul are no longer able to participate alongside the rest of the group and are looking to do the London to Paris 2021. If you would like your sponsorship to be refunded please contact alex.purvis@enate.net and arrangements will be made.

Thanks for taking the time to visit the W(h)ine Club's JustGiving page and congratulations on being a top human - we all appreciate how often you get asked to sponsor someone else's stupidity, so THANK YOU for clicking the donate button once again! Whatever you can spare is genuinely received with massive gratitude.

Here's the context:

  • COVID happened
  • We set up a charitable group to provide free solutions/ expertise to NHS trusts
  • We drank some wine while we plotted it out because we're sophisticated
  • We became great friends (alcohol will do that)
  • We met people more inspiring than we knew possible (You all know who you are, including but not limited to our pals at GOSH)
  • We were so keen to keep helping via any medium known to man that wasn't a video call
  • We signed up to London to Paris to continue our support for GOSH
  • We immediately realised our catastrophic lack of judgement but are sticking with it

Here's a little about our team:

  • Alex from Enate - Team mascot and W(h)ine Club founder. Complete novice, does not possess bike at time of writing. Most likely agreed to participate due to mid-life crisis- she's only 30 but epic wine consumption has significantly lowered life expectancy. Should have done a pub crawl.
  • James from Digital Workforce - London to Paris veteran and W(h)ine Club lead vocalist.  Accident prone and recent heart attack survival make him a solid liability. Loves a chat; likely to be told to shut up on the climbs. Interesting attitude to caffeine.
  • Paul from Beyond Analysis - funkiest remit focused on all things AI. Has firmly been told he's not allowed to half-job it on his electric bike. Participant most likely to apply data science to the success of his padded shorts and chamois cream application.
  • Wil from ISG - military man with legal training. Fancy carbon bike most likely to be launched post-challenge. Already memorised the route and potentially helpful in litigious aftermath when we fail to unclip and cause damage to parked cars.
  • James from Emergence Partners - self-confessed fair weather rider and certified pilot. Has vague understanding of slipstreaming but has not yet realised he's therefore volunteered for the front. Engineering background in heavyweight technology but unlikely to be much use with a puncture.
  • Martin from Enate - serial endurance event nutjob and most experienced rider. Responsible for the fundraising stretch strategy of donating proceeds from others' You've Been Framed clips. Already being a fun sponge with training plans, and the one least likely to fall for puppy dog 'mate giz a push?' eyes.

Wil has his own personal page if you would like to support him directly:
