Story

Hi there everyone,

So, our Three Peak Challenge is now over & so we thought we would post our story so you can see what we achieved personally and for this amazing charity : ) And most importantly to express our thanks to each and every one of you.

The only reason we were able to attempt this challenge was due to your incredible generosity for a cause incredibly close to my heart (as to be honest, I have discovered I am not so much a Russell from UP & would like to never be on a mountain again!). So far, you have helped us raise over £2,300 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, which will be attributed to my darling Dad’s tribute fund, the Peter Kicul Tribute Fund. The whole reasoning behind this challenge was to honour the year anniversary of my Dad’s death and try to reach the £10,000 mark on his tribute page – which we will now be able to do thanks to all of you. So thank you : )

But back to the story...It had become pretty apparent during our mandatory practice climb the week before that although I was able to climb the mountains mentally and physically (more from the fact I wanted to do it for my Dad and you guys than enjoyment!), I was unable to keep up with the pace of ex-marine leader Greg and the other all male group I was climbing with. And as the aim was to complete all in 24 hours, this was a bit of a problem! Therefore, Greg set me my own challenge - to get half way on Nevis (up and down by myself whilst the group pushed on) and all of Snowdon. I was asked to miss out Scafell as it was in the dark, & I wasn’t allowed to climb myself as on Nevis and Snowdon. I have been extremely worried about this for the past two weeks and only hope that our amazing supporters realise that I gave it my best shot!

On the 19th August, me & Tom set off to spend the night in Liverpool, ready for a 7.30am start off to Ben Nevis in Scotland the following day! As the only Southerners (and me the only girl), we had our work cut out for us! But fortunately, luck (and the traffic) were on our side! Tom was incredible and managed all 3 mountains in 24 hours! And I managed the goal set to me by Greg of over half of Ben Nevis and all of Snowdon! Therefore, in total, we achieved the following during our three peaks challenge:

Ben Nevis – 1344m (climbed from 4pm until 9pm on Friday night)

Scafell Pike – 977m (climbed from 2am until 7am on Saturday morning)

Snowdon – 1085m (climbed from 12pm until 5pm on Saturday afternoon)

Tom – total of 3,406m climbed in 24 hours!

Holly – total of 1,785m climbed in 24 hours!

So between us, we climbed a total of 5,191m in 24 hours!

We also had to complete a mandatory practice climb the week before up another of the Snowdon Mountains, Moel Siabod which is 864m high.

So in a week, between us we climbed 6.5 mountains (6,919m)! I think that is worthy of a mountain climbing wilderness explorer badge don’t you think?!

So thank you so so much – if you still want to donate, it is not too late! The site will be open until October so feel free to log on and donate if you wish.

Thank you all again – really couldn’t have done it without you all. Here's to hoping that in the future your money will help them find a cure so no-one else has to loose loved ones so suddenly.

All our love,

Holly and Tom xx
