We provide sources of sustainable education to help children break the cycle of poverty
Story
This summer Philip Bell, Lachlan Grassie, Marcus Cram and Stuart Rylance are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. The trip will be a challenging one for all of us and is funded by the generous, Texas-based, Heritage Plastics company. The trip is in aid of COCO, a children’s charity founded by the father of Marcus. We will be involved in a week of voluntary work in an orphanage and Londoto school funded by COCO. COCO is vital in providing support to children all over Africa. Specifically money raised by us will go to providing another 2 classroom blocks at Londoto School, expansion of women's farm at Majengo Kitchen and a new health centre in Nkwawayanga. These all provide essential services that everyone should be entitled to - education, healthcare and food. Many of these children could not otherwise be provided with meals, education or healthcare due to the poverty induced by HIV/AIDs and large family sizes. Parents are often reluctant to send the children from these families to school as they are valuable in the home, however Majengo central Kitchen and other projects provide an incentive to these parents to send their child to school and loosen their burden. This is relief aid, but it is also sustainable.
COCO strives to increase the numbers attending school in Tanzania and decrease child labour, while improving child nutrition in the area. This is very much a worthwhile cause and a small donation could go far. If you would like to donate it would be much appreciated. To donate to COCO please go onto the trip’s just give website on www.justgiving.com/lachlan-grassie.
COCO’s purpose is to provide education to create the opportunity for children to break the cycle of poverty. We are currently working with communities in remote areas of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Our vision is a world where every child, everywhere has access to quality education.
