Story
Have You Seen the Poppies on City Way?
If you've passed through City Way in Rochester recently, you may have noticed the striking red poppies adorning the lamp posts. These were lovingly placed by Scouts and adult volunteers from the 21st Medway Scout Group to honour those who gave their lives in war and to support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
A total of 158 poppies have been installed on 79 lamp posts along the full 1.7-mile stretch of City Way.
We’re asking for your help. Our goal is to raise £5 per lamp post, which would total £395 for the RBL. Each post features two large plastic poppies (41x36cm), serving as a powerful visual tribute.
If you're able, please consider making a small donation to support this important cause. Every contribution helps.
Please also help us spread the word. Over 12,000 vehicles travel City Way each day — let’s turn awareness into action. Share the link with family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues. Together, we can make this a true community effort.

The red poppy is a symbol of Remembrance, and of hope for a positive future and a peaceful world. Displaying the poppies is a show of support for the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans and their families. They represent all those who lost their lives on active service, from the beginning of the First World War right up to present day.
It also honours the contribution of civilian services and the uniformed services which contribute to national peace and security and acknowledges innocent civilians who have lost their lives in conflict and acts of terrorism.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
The poppies were supplied by the Royal British Legion Poppy Factory in Aylesford and permission was obtained from Medway Council before putting them up.
