Story
I’m taking part in the Rare But Real Walk in support of Georgie, who was diagnosed in 2025 with leiomyosarcoma, a rare type of sarcoma.
Like many people, I knew very little about sarcoma until it touched the life of someone I care about. Although it is classed as a rare cancer, its impact on those diagnosed, and on the people who love them, is immeasurable.
Over the past year, since I began my own journey with the Health Hut community, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Georgie. In that relatively short time, she has become someone I deeply admire. She is one of the strongest, kindest and most inspirational people I have ever met. No matter what she has faced, she continues to support and encourage those around her with warmth, positivity and courage.
Georgie has also been an impeccable voice of reason for me. Her wisdom, honesty and unwavering support have helped me more than she probably realises, and I know I’m just one of many people whose lives she has touched. She has a remarkable way of lifting others up, even while facing challenges of her own, and that is something I will always admire.
Every year, around 5,300 people in the UK are diagnosed with sarcoma, yet awareness remains low, which can delay diagnosis and limit treatment options. That’s why I’m walking - to help shine a light on this rare disease, raise awareness, support vital research, and help improve care for everyone affected.
This walk is about more than completing 5 or 10 kilometres. It’s about standing beside Georgie, honouring her incredible strength, and supporting every person whose life has been changed by sarcoma. It’s about bringing our community together to show that while sarcoma may be rare, it is very real, and that no one should ever have to face it alone.
If you’re able to support me with a donation, no matter how big or small, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every contribution helps Sarcoma UK continue its vital work in funding research, providing support, campaigning for earlier diagnosis, and improving outcomes for people living with sarcoma.
Georgie, thank you for being such an incredible inspiration. Your strength, resilience and compassion are truly extraordinary, and I feel incredibly fortunate to know you. This walk is for you. 💚
Thank you for your kindness, generosity and support. Together, we can help make sure sarcoma is seen, recognised and never forgotten.
