Story
Last year, I had the privilege of travelling to Tanzania with Last Night A DJ Saved My Life to deliver the Get Equipped project at Angels Gate. That experience stayed with me long after I returned home.
The time spent with the children, young people, and teaching staff creating, learning, and building trust through music was genuinely life-changing. The connections formed and the impact of simply showing up consistently made it clear that this work really matters.
Because of that, in January, I’ve made the decision to return to Angels Gate on a solo Get Equipped mission, volunteering my time to continue the work we started last year and to support the young people and staff on the ground.
Before my DJ career took off, I worked in social care in Greenwich, London, supporting vulnerable young people aged five to eighteen. Being back in a setting where music can be used as a tool for confidence, creativity, and self-expression feels incredibly natural to me.
Get Equipped is about more than DJing, it’s about consistency, trust, and long-term change. Returning to Tanzania is my way of honouring the relationships built last year and continuing something that means a great deal to me.
Any support you can give will help provide equipment, resources, and opportunities for the young people at Angels Gate, and will directly support the ongoing impact of this project.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
Darren 💛
