Story
For the second time this year, I’m joining LNADJ on a musical mission.
This time I’m heading to Nepal with another brilliantly creative team, supporting LNADJ’s long-term partnership with the Girls’ Empowerment Programme — a three-year programme helping girls build confidence, skills, leadership and opportunities for their futures.
While I’m there, I’ll be working with around 35–40 girls through singing, songwriting and participatory music workshops. A smaller group who already particularly love singing will work more closely with me and help lead some of the activities alongside the local team.
The idea is not for me to turn up, do a few workshops and disappear.
I want us to make something together.
We’ll sing, write, experiment, share skills, learn from each other and hopefully create a song during the week that actually belongs to the girls involved and reflects something of what we’ve shared.
I’ve spent most of my life using music to bring people together, build confidence and make life a little better. It appears I have no other hobby, so Nepal is getting the full treatment.
What really matters to me is what happens after we leave.
The Girls’ Empowerment Programme is built around girls passing on what they learn, becoming peer educators and leaders in their own communities. I’ll be working with the girls and the local team to explore how singing and participatory music could continue at the Centre, with the possibility of ongoing mentoring and support from me once I’m back home.
So this is not really about one week in Nepal.
It’s about helping create something useful, joyful and sustainable that the girls can take ownership of and keep building.
Any donation, large or small, will support LNADJ’s long-term work with the Girls’ Empowerment Programme and help make projects like this possible.
