Story
Squat Challenge Launching for Visually Impaired Veterans Ski Trip.
My name is Pete Lindsay. I am an ex Royal Marines Commando.A veteran of the Royal Marines, I served six years and travelled far and wide to jungles, deserts and snowy Norway. Whilst serving in Norway, 11 marines including myself had the opportunity to partake in snowboarding one weekend. I instantly fell in love with snowboarding. I boarded for many years until I was unfortunately injured in Iraq in 2006. I was working as a bodyguard when our vehicle was hit by 3 IEDs. I sustained a brain injury which has caused flashing and blind spots in my central vision, and I also suffer with epilepsy. I lost my career, driving and confidence and I thought I would never snowboard again.I was invited to spend a week with Visually Impaired VeteransSki/Snowboard Club. I was unsure at first, but I was assured that I would have a guide to look after me. They have continued to teach me to snowboard and I've never looked back, gaining confidence, skills and friends. This gives me the sense of being totally independent, my only requirement being a guide to be my eyesight. This amazing group of guides mainly veterans, give up their own time to assist which in turn affords us visually impaired and blind skiers a week of freedom and independence away from our guide dogs and white canes. It also ensures our families get some respite. Without the guides these trips would not be possible. Please help me raise the cost of a guide. Can’t See Still SkiDuring this challenge I am being supported by Tom Paterson, who is a serving Royal Marine and one of the Visually Impaired Ski Guides. Our challenge will be to complete 100 Squats a day, we are challenging you to join us, spread the word and raise funds.
