We would like to share an incredible story of teamwork, grit, and ambition happening right here within our Broughton plant.

In just couple of days time, a cross-functional team of 19 Airbus employees is heading to Tanzania to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro—the highest freestanding mountain in the world.

Predominantly driven by the Manufacturing Engineering team, this amazing crew also includes fantastic representation from Quality, Design, Operations and HR teams.

🌍 The Mission: 100% Self-Funded for Vital Causes

This isn't just a physical test; it’s a massive fundraising drive.

Zero Corporate Overhead: Every single participant is paying 100% of their own way for flights, gear, and park fees.

100% for Charity: Every single penny raised goes directly to this year's chosen ME charities: Hope House / Tŷ Gobaith and the Wales Air Ambulance.

🥾 The Trek: The Brutal Machame Route

From July 21st to August 1st, 2026, the team will be pushed to their absolute limits.

The Route: A grueling 7-day trek involving high-altitude camping and steep, unforgiving terrain. We will negotiate the infamous Barranco Wall, while struggling with the effects of altitude on the body at 4,200m. The next day we will reach the high camp which is Kosovo Camp at 4,600 meters and it is from here, we will make our summit attempt.

Five Ecosystems: The team will literally walk through five distinct ecological zones, starting in lush tropical rainforests and finishing in an arctic desert surrounded by massive glaciers.

The temperatures will range from 28℃ to a chilly -20℃ at the top. So nearly 50℃ temperature difference.

Lets hope the sleeping bag is up to the challenge!

The Summit: Uhuru Peak, standing at an incredible 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level.

The Final Push: Summit night begins at midnight in freezing temperatures, climbing a steep scree slope for 6 grueling hours to reach the peak just in time for a beautiful sunrise (hopefully).

Stella Point, only 100 vertical meters to go to reach Uluru Peak.

💪 Training Milestone: Smashed It!

If you think they aren't ready, think again. On June 20th, many of the participants successfully completed the brutal Snowdon Six challenge.

They summited Yr Wyddfa three times via all six historic routes in under 18 hours. It was a massive test of pure mental and physical grit, proving this team has exactly what it takes to dominate Kili, helping the wider ME team raise over £15,000 currently.
