Setting off from Brighton on 16th June, our team of 20 people will cycle 1,600km, arriving in Barcelona on 2nd July where many of us will attend the World Parkinson Congress, which takes place in Barcelona from 4th-7th July.

The idea came from World Parkinson Congress Ambassador, Alison Anderson who has lived with Parkinson's for the past eight years and is a keen cyclist. Alison says 'I love to have a challenge to motivate me to exercise more than I would do otherwise as exercise is the one thing that has been shown to delay disease progression'.

Team members come from Norway, Australia, USA, Canada and the UK and nine of us are living with Parkinson's which amongst other things can cause problems with tremors, balance, fatigue, slowness of movements and cognition, as well as stiffness and rigidity. All of these things can make cycling more difficult but we have been training hard for months and are ready and determined to complete every mile of the challenge.

Alison and some of her teammates are raising funds for Cure Parkinson's, a charity that focusses its resources on supporting research that has the potential to slow, stop or reverse Parkinson's.
