Raising money for Woodcraft Folk and THE WORD FOREST ORGANISATION

Story

Scarlett:

I am a 15-year-old planning my second extreme challenge. I aim to walk and wild-camp the entire length of Devon – a total of 188 km – in one week, to raise money for Woodcraft Folk, a co-operative movement for children and young people.

Woodcraft Folk uses games, craft, discussion, debate, camping, music and drama to learn about local and global issues (such as climate change, the environment and sustainability) in ways that are fun and age appropriate. It enables children and young adults to connect with nature and the outdoors.

Woodcraft Folk supports its young members to build a peaceful, fairer world, and to develop their own ideas, their self-confidence and their skills, so they can take an active role in shaping our world and their future.

Louise:

I will be joining my daughter for our second challenge, walking and wild-camping the length of Devon, to raise money for The Word Forest Organisation, an environmental and education charity based in the UK.

The Word Forest Organisation works to combat the devastating effects of global warming and climate change by planting fast-growing (predominantly food-bearing) trees in the tropics, where trees grow up to 10 times faster than anywhere else on the planet, helping to mitigate climate change at a pace.

They also support women’s empowerment, build classrooms and facilitate education in the local communities who help them with tree-planting. In addition, the Word Forest Organisation raises environmental awareness and plants trees within the UK.
