Story
We are a group of dads and teenagers who are swimming in the wake of Lord Byron. The Hellespont is the stretch of water where the Black Sea empties into the Mediterranean, through the jaws of the Dardanelles. Of his swim in 1810, Byron said: "I plume myself on this achievement more than I could possibly do on any kind of glory." Others weren't so successful: Leander famously drowned attempting to swim across to his lover, Hero. While the 4.5km strait may not seem that far, the currents are swift and the jellyfish enormous. We are all raising money for different, personally significant, charities. Wish us luck!
