Raising money for The Felix Project

The Felix Project collects fresh, nutritious food that cannot be sold. We deliver this surplus food to charities and schools so they can provide healthy meals and help the most vulnerable in our society.

Story

New City College has a lot of students who benefit from Free School Meal vouchers. For these students and their families, these vouchers have been tremendous financial support, especially during this lockdown. The government’s decision to continue this scheme during the summer holiday is a big relief for our students and their families.

However, there are still millions of people in the UK who regularly go hungry. In London, 1.5 million adults struggle to eat every day. 400,000 children are at risk of missing their next meal.

What does The Felix Project do?

The Felix Project is providing emergency response to bring food to those who need it most. The charity is also co-ordinating food for emergency food hubs, working with local councils in 14 of London’s 33 Boroughs, delivering large volumes of food to 380 charities, and 86 primary schools. They also deliver food to young people taking part in 100 summer holiday programmes.

What is New City College doing to support The Felix Project?

This whole summer we’d like to invite you to go places with us! Whether it is to Blenheim Place or Isle of Wight, whether it is one way or return trip, whether it takes you two weeks or one month, your support will mean a lot to help feed vulnerable people! So where do you want to go:

Walk, Run or Cycle to your Destination from any New City College Campus

• Attlee Academy to Cambridge University – 53 miles

• Tower Hamlets Campus to Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire – 69 miles

• Epping Forest Campus to Stonehenge, Salisbury – 98 miles

If you don’t want to participate, you can instead choose to support those who are taking part.

Every £10 donation to The Felix Project delivers enough food for 55 meals!

Our support will ensure that The Felix Project can keep feeding vulnerable people throughout London – not just now but also to meet the longer-term socio-economic impact of this crisis on millions of people throughout our capital city. Their sole source of funding is from fundraising.
