In June, we are taking on an extraordinary challenge - an ultra marathon Trek along the Transylvania Trail in Romania, in support of Insurance United Against Dementia.

This is not a typical endurance event.

Over the course of the weekend, a team of 20 insurance professionals will push ourselves across demanding terrain, with the challenge culminating in a full marathon on Sunday through dense forest.

This remote region is known for its wildlife, we’ll be trekking through the forest alongside brown bears and wolves.

It will be physically exhausting, mentally challenging, and far outside our comfort zones.

And that is exactly the point.

Why we’re doing this:

Dementia is one of the most devastating conditions affecting individuals, families, and communities today. It goes far beyond memory loss - it gradually impacts personality, independence, communication, and identity, often over many years.

The emotional strain on loved ones and carers can be overwhelming, and the need for research and support has never been greater.

Insurance United Against Dementia brings the insurance industry together to:

• Fund critical research into prevention, diagnosis, and treatment

• Support people living with dementia and their families

• Raise awareness and understanding, helping reduce stigma

• Champion better care, policy, and long term solutions

In the UK alone, nearly one million people are living with dementia, with millions more affected as family members, friends, and carers. Behind every statistic is a personal story of loss, resilience, and love.

Why this challenge matters

This Trek will be uncomfortable, demanding, and relentless - dementia is all of those things, every single day.

Families do not get to pause the journey.

Carers do not get to opt out.

And progress depends on action.

By taking on this ultra marathon together, we are using our collective strength to help fund hope, research, and meaningful support for those living with dementia now -and in the future.
