The Jewish Music Institute (JMI) is more than an arts charity - it’s a cultural catalyst.
For over 40 years, we’ve championed the richness and diversity of Jewish music, embedding it into the heart of British cultural life. Today, our mission is more urgent than ever: to ensure that Jewish music is not only preserved, but celebrated, shared, and heard - loud and clear - across the UK and beyond.
Founded in 1984, JMI has become a vital force in the UK’s musical landscape. We’ve safeguarded ancient traditions, nurtured new talent, and brought Jewish music into concert halls, classrooms, and communities. Now, under the bold leadership of Na’ama Zisser - (formerly ROH, LSO, BBC) JMI’s CEO since 2024 - we’re entering a transformative new chapter.
We are launching ambitious initiatives that spotlight the full spectrum of Jewish music: from the haunting beauty of cantorial chants and the soulful strains of Ladino, to Judeo-Arabic traditions, Jewish jazz, and bold new works by contemporary composers. We're commissioning groundbreaking projects, expanding our education programmes, and building bridges across cultures and communities.

But we can’t do this alone.
At a time when the arts are under pressure and Jewish voices face growing challenges, your support is not just appreciated, it’s essential.
By donating to JMI, you’re investing in a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient cultural future. You’re helping amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard. You’re ensuring that Jewish music continues to inspire, educate, and connect across generations, backgrounds, and beliefs.
This is a pivotal moment.
What’s at stake is not just a legacy, but a living, breathing movement. A movement that sees Jewish music not as niche, but as a vital thread in the cultural fabric of Britain and beyond.
With your support, we can ensure it continues to resonate boldly and beautifully for generations to come.

What your donation will support:
Funds raised through this campaign will support JMI’s three core strands of work:
New Music: Commissioning bold new works across diverse genres, including Cantorial/Contemporary Classical, Judeo-Arabic, Ladino, and Jewish Jazz (2026) and launching the JMI Music Label to provide a platform for emerging and underrepresented Jewish artists.
Community: Expanding our outreach and engagement, from school programmes like Zingt! and Anotimpurile (2025), to developing new initiatives exploring Sephardic musical traditions (2026). We’ll also support our Youth Big Band as they tour beyond London, and continue to grow our renowned Summer School (Klezfest, Yiddish Song, and more).
Heritage: Sustaining our Jewish Music Lectureship at SOAS (one of only two in the world), hosting academic conferences including North African Jewish Music (2026), and safeguarding the JMI Archive, home to rare musical materials that preserve Jewish cultural memory for future generations.
