Story
I have a few regrets in life. There was my unsuccessful spell as a Burlesque dancer and the fiasco that was my business providing range extending tow-along batteries for Sinclair C5s. However, there was also my failure to run the Manchester Marathon in 2022 in memory of my friend Chris. I am fixing that now. Chris died of heart problems the year before. Fuelled by Guinness at his wake, I had agreed to run the marathon with his daughter and a friend but then chickened out.
The event is on 19th April so not many weeks away. I've never run a marathon before so I am a little nervous. My aim is to complete the event without having to hitch a lift on the truck that clears away the cones and barriers.
In 2022 the aim was to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support to continue with this. However, this time, because it appears that I can't make decisions, I have also added two other good causes that I support.
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like you that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps.
I'm supporting Prostate Cancer UK as well as they are doing amazing work to raise the awareness of Prostate Cancer and encourage men to get a simple blood test for early detection.
Approximately 1 in 8 men (about 12–13%) in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Risk increases significantly with age, particularly over 50, and is higher for Black men (1 in 4). It is the most common cancer in men in the UK, accounting for 28% of male cases
Finally, for those who prefer something closer to home, I would suggest support for BRWR (Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees). This lovely charity provides personal, practical and emotional support for individuals and families seeking safety from war torn areas. You can read more on their donation page.
I don't mind if you contribute to all good causes or just one but I would really appreciate if you could donate even a small amount. So please give what you can to help me hit my target(s).
Thanks!
