Story
One in four people experience mental health difficulties each year. A student's journey through university can place additional stresses on them leading to different types of mental health difficulties, which affect individuals in different ways.
Being active and taking part in sport can have a positive impact on mental health in some of the following ways: reduces stress; improves sleep; slows cognitive decline; improves mood; lifts self-esteem and lowers risk of depression.
Supporting the wellbeing of students and improving student mental health is a big priority for our university and Team ARU would like to encourage as many people as possible to join us by taking on a challenge. The money you raise will support Mind, the UK's leading mental health charity, to provide further support to those that need it and the wellbeing of everyone who takes part in your challenge will also benefit in the ways listed above.
It does not matter how small or big your challenge - whether it's to complete your first Parkrun, organise a team 24-hour row-a-thon or to do the Cambridge Half Marathon - the important thing is that it's personal to you and something you're passionate about.
