Sunday for Sammy supports young performers, writers and creatives from the North East of England at the outset of their careers. We help with equipment, training, educational fees, mentoring etc.

Story

To mark 25 incredible years of Sunday for Sammy, our dedicated team of ten runners are aiming high, setting a bold target to raise £25,000. This isn’t just a number. It’s an investment in the future of 12 extraordinary young creatives from the North East, following in the inspirational footsteps of Sammy Johnson.

In a powerful new partnership with Gateshead College, these talented individuals will be the very first students to enrol on the College’s brand-new Level 4 Creative Enterprise (Concept to Creation) Diploma. Each will receive a Sunday for Sammy Bursary, a vital lifeline designed to remove the barriers that often hold back potential.

These are young people who’ve already shown immense passion and promise, completing two years of intense study in fields like TV & Film, Content Creation, Journalism, and Music Performance. They’ve told us they want to stay in the North East, to build their creative futures here, BUT they face a challenging transition into the world of freelancing and industry work.

That’s where this course steps in, offering not only advanced study but two days a week of hands-on work experience in real creative settings.

But talent alone isn’t enough. The reality is that hidden costs – travel, equipment, software subscriptions – can quickly become insurmountable hurdles. For many, these are the costs that quietly shut doors.

That’s why this bursary matters. It’s not just money, it’s opportunity. It’s a camera in a young filmmaker’s hands. It’s a bus pass to a first industry job. It’s a subscription that allows a budding content creator to keep learning, experimenting, and building their dream. It's the difference between out of the game and fame.

With your support, £25,000 can change twelve lives, and in turn, help shape the creative future of our region.

Let’s honour Sammy’s legacy the best way we know how: by lifting up the next generation.
