We are a group of business friends that all support the good work of the RAF and have come together to replicate the 1982 yomp across the Falkland Islands, famously undertaken by 45 Commando during the Falklands Conflict.
All monies raised will go towards the excellent works of the RAF Benevolent Fund, a charity close to our hearts.. The Fund helps past and present service men and women (and their dependents) recover from injuries sustained during active service, from WWII through the Falklands to more recent action in Iraq and Afghanistan. They provide practical and emotional assistance and help veterans find new paths and purpose after an early end to their RAF careers. Examples of their work can be found at www.rafbf.org
The Falkland’s Yomp is a physically demanding 120km treck across difficult terrain consisting of peat bog, tussock grass and rock in winds typically in excess of 20mph. We will set off from the port of San Carlos on the west coast of East Falkland on 9th February, 2015, arriving in Stanley around five days later. We will camp out and use sheepsheds and outhouses for overnight rest. Whilst nothing can truly replicate the difficulties our armed forces endured to liberate these islands, the expedition is still a unique challenge and we hope that you will do what you can to support this excellent charity.
We will be posting a blog to keep you informed of the progress of our fundraising effort and the challenge itself.
