On 17th September 2017, doctors, nurses and support staff from the Leeds Major Trauma Centre will travel to Weymouth for the almighty Ironman Challenge, on behalf of Day One Charity.
This consists of a 1.2 mile sea swim, 56 mile cycle and a 13.1 mile run. A huge endurance test, but worth it to raise money for a vital cause.
As staff who support trauma patients on a daily basis, we know how devastating serious injury can be to individuals and families.
Day One is a non-profit charity committed to making a positive impact on trauma care in England.
Currently Day One is based in the major trauma centre at Leeds General Infirmary and affiliated to The Leeds Hospital Charitable Foundation, however this is just the start. We aim to grow and support other major trauma centres, becoming a national initiative.
We’re not just fundraisers, we’re a group of dedicated medical and legal experts. But most importantly the majority of us have experienced major trauma ourselves. We have been through the highs – and the lows – on the road to recovery, so we understand what a rollercoaster ride it is.
We know that it’s not easy, we know it won’t be fixed overnight, but the right support from Day One can help patients through.
