Story

I'M BACK! 12/09/2012

What a fantastic trip! Made it to Base Camp in eight days. There were some downs (altitude sickness is not the one!) but some amazing highs. Shared the trail with yaks, horsebacked adventurers and amazing sherpas. Made some fantastic friends and had the time of my life but most importantly, raised a HUGE amount of money for VSO. Thank you so much to everyone who donated, to everyone who cheered me on and to everyone I met along the way. Couldn't have done any of it without you!

Now i'm on to my next big charity endeavor. I will be joining the Youth Volunteers of International Citizen Service with VSO and travelling to the Philippines to work with likeminded individuals within one of VSO's many long term development projects. I'll be assisting first hand in one of the places your money has been used. So thank you again, and if you'd like to continue to support me pop over to http://justgiving.com/JamesJenningsVSO and see what you can do.

UPDATE 13/08/2012: ONE WEEK'S TIME TILL DEPARTURE!

In one week i'll be on my way to Terminal 4 Heathrow to set off for the trek! It's been a great build up so thanks to everyone who's helped me raise the money once again. There's still time for you to donate if you still want to and even after the event has taken place, if you're proud of me or just want to show continued support you can send money too. Just a reminder that all money goes direct to VSO when donated through this website. Anything you can spare will really affect lives of people the charity helps all over the world!

NB. 'sup nprovein ;)

LESS THAN A MONTH TO GO!

The time is almost upon me! In 26 days time i'll be on the plane to Nepal and the nervousness and excitement will all kick in at once!

I STILL HAVE a way to go! So now is the time to send that money you've been meaning to. This is a message to everyone who's gone "Oh yeah, I'll totally donate. What a great cause" but has 'never gotten around to it'. There's no shame in being late! And anything you can send me would be GREAT!

So thank you in advance to helping me out and a massive thank you to everyone who has sent anything my way since I set up this page. You're all awesome! :)

EVENT UPDATE 02/07/2012

With just over a month to go till I hopefully depart for Kathmandu, I thought I'd update everyone on how I was doing.

Mystery Can Competition
At my place of work I held a "Guess what's in the Mystery Can" competition whereby I placed a can WITH ALL LABELS REMOVED out on show for everyone. People put down their guesses on a sheet next to the can and popped some coinage into my collection pot. They could out bid people if they wanted to usurp their guess for their own and in the end the prize (a bottle of Famous Grouse) was won by Laura Cleverly for correctly guessing the mystery contents: 'Chick Peas'.

Well done Laura!

Ebay Sales
Currently actively selling are a number of auctions of mine with all proceeds going towards VSO. At the end of the auctions I will tip my entire paypal fund bucket into this very Just Giving page and it's looking that I may be able to have raised over £100 from the current auctions I have in place. This is good :)

If you're interested, here are the auctions I currently have in place:

CHARITY AUCTION UPDATE! 11/04/2012

- Boreal Climbing Shoes Size 11 ALMOST NEW (£60)
- Everlast Sit Up Bench BARELY USED (£40)

FUNDRAISING EVENT UPDATE! 03/04/2012

I will be taking part in LIVE BELOW THE LINE which is a major international poverty campaign taking place during the 7th-11th May. This is an awareness and fundraising campaign designed to help understand the challenges faced by those currently living in extreme poverty.

For 5 days I will be feeding myself for
just £1 a day – the amount that people living in extreme poverty currently meet all their needs with. I hope that that by limiting myself in this way on a similar level to almost 1.4 BILLION people in the world today. I will be able to help raise money for their cause and move ever closer to the dream that one day people will not have to suffer like this.

Anything you can give will be appreciated and all donations go DIRECT to VSO. None of the funds will go towards my £5s of ingredients.

Mark your donations with LBTL or STARVE or NOFOOD4U or something of similar hillarity so I know that you're taking pleasure in my hunger >_<

I've made it EVEN EASIER for you to help me out. If you text "TGFO57" followed by an amount of pounds (for example "TGFO57 £10") to 70070 you can INSTANTLY donate from your phone credit and you won't have to put any card details in.

Plus there's no extra service charge ie. you won't pay a txt rate on top of this.

Go oooooooooooooooon.
Send me a text :)

Mount Everest Base Camp stands at approximately 18,000ft above sea level. This is already higher than any other summit in Europe and together with other members of the University of Portsmouth, On the 20th August I will be setting off on a three week excursion to the Himalayas with the 11 day trek to Base Camp nestled securely in the middle.

I am hoping to raise £2,350 ($3,700) for Voluntary Service Overseas who work all over the world to bring Volunteers and Support to those suffering through poverty. You’ve heard the mantra“Give a man a fish and he can eat for a day, but teach a man to fish and he can eat for a lifetime” ? Well VSO is the charity that truly epitomises this message. They help with Education, Health, Disability and HIV treatment in 40 countries across the globe! So if you feel you can help me out at all, with whatever donations you can spare, I can work towards providing a fairly substantial injection of funds for the people who really really need it.

Here's a bit more about them below...

VSO is the world's leading international development charity that works through volunteers to fight poverty. We don't send food parcels or cash to the poor. Instead, VSO's high-impact approach involves bringing people together to share skills, build capabilities, promote international understanding and action, and change lives to make the world a fairer place.

If you want to help but you can’t donate for whatever reason you still can! Help me spread the word. Social networking is an amazing tool and if you can help raise awareness for the cause by following, reblogging, favouriting, +1ing, Liking and generally getting my voice out there I would be most grateful! Also, if you know of any way I can gain some corporate sponsors or if you are a member of a small business who would like to help me out you can send me an Ask, Fan Mail, Private Message or Wall Post and i’ll get in contact with you and we can see what we can offer each other.

Please Note: I do not personally receive any of the money donated through the Just Giving website. This means that even if, for whatever reason, I am unable to partake in the trip. I will not receive personal benefit from anything you donate. All proceeds will be going to the cause and if I manage to double or even triple the fundraising goal, all of this will still go DIRECTLY to the charity and not to me.

Just follow the official information below and send some cash in my honour. It's all for a great cause and I'm looking to smash my sponsorship target as soon as possible! :D
