Story

A team of five - including staff and family members of staff - from Burrownoor children's home are thrilled to be taking on the Break Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge 2024 to raise funds to change the lives of care experienced young people in their home this summer!

Jade Wickes, Deputy Manager, said: “Each year we try to fundraise to gain some funds for our young people to have experiences of their choosing. This year we are aiming to fund a holiday for the summer - for us all to go away and have a great break together, but we need to fundraise to do this. So the five of us are all going to be working hard on our training and getting to 'peak' fitness for this challenge."

"The team have all been fantastic in really getting fit and ready for this challenge - and it has been great to get the young people involved too! Please do support us and donate now - every £1 donated will give us even more determination and know we are truly changing lives as we take on the peaks!”

This demanding one-day trekking challenge will take in the summits of Pen-y-Ghent (694m/2,276 ft), Whernside (736m/2,415 ft) and Inglebor-ough (723m/2,372 ft), all in one circular route starting and ending in Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

Make no mistake this is a tough challenge with up to 1700m of ascent, 39.2km in distance, all to be accomplished within 12hrs. So, requiring an average walking speed of 3.5km/hr!

Sarah Bunn, Fundraising Manager at Break, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that one of our homes staff are taking on this challenge with us - it will not be easy, but we all know the huge difference their support will mean to the young people at Burrowmoor - giving them a much needed break away together and building some amazing memories. Sponsor them today please and help get them over the peak of their target!”
