80km for Elgon Empowerment

Organised by Elgon Empowerment

The diameter of Mount Elgon in Uganda, is 80 kilometres. In 2025 we are challenging ourselves, our friends and colleagues to cover this distance in September to fundraise for Elgon Empowerment. Walk, run, roll or waddle your way to 80km with us!

OUR PHILOSOPHY: IF WE CAN HELP, THEN WHY NOT? We’re a small group of UK professionals who support the awe-inspiring work of communities in developing areas of Uganda. We’re a diverse bunch, but we mutually recognise the privilege afforded to us by living in the UK. So why not use that privilege for something great. If we can help others, then why not… Since 2022 we’ve facilitated women’s empowerment workshops, teaching over 700 women & girls about female reproductive health, and have provided thousands of reusable sanitary products, We’ve achieved this through you! Crowdfunding our way to more empowered communities.

Story

The Ugandan village of Mutoto sits on the lush slopes of Mount Elgon, and is the first community we began work with in 2019. True to our origin, and our charity name, our fundraising challenge this year is to travel a distance equivalent to the diameter of Mount Elgon; 80 kilometres.

Where your money goes

In 2025, Elgon Empowerment will be continuing to support our partnered communities in their social empowerment and empowerment of women and girls living in poverty.

By working with local leaders in rural Uganda, donations will be spent providing sewing machines, materials and comprehensive training for women, enabling them to produce their own reusable sanitary products and supply their communities.

This project empowers women and girls with knowledge, with skills and opportunity, but also helps foster economic independence. Through this work, we aim to create a sustainable, self-sufficient model that supplies localities with sanitary products, empowers women, and improves the overall well-being of their communities.
