More than half of girls who start school in Uganda, drop out - largely because they cannot have their periods in safety.
You've already done an amazing thing by making your way to this page - thank you. We're Elgon Empowerment, a charity who support local leaders in Uganda empower their women & communities.
What we do:
It's not periods that stop girls going to school, it's the lack of access to sanitary products, the lack of of knowledge of menstrual health and access to support and facilities.
That's where we come in. We can use the privilege afforded to us by being from the UK to help awe-inspiring local leaders with such challenges.
We facilitate Women's workshops, teaching about women's reproductive health and provide thousands of reusable sanitary products. We're able to do this because of you - crowdfunding our way to more empowered communities!
Run solely by volunteers and driven by the priorities of our local partners, 2025 is set to be a big year for us - fancy being a part of it?

The diameter of Mount Elgon in Uganda, the location of the first communities we worked with, is 80 kilometres. In 2025 we are challenging ourselves, our friends and colleagues to cover this distance in September to fundraise for Elgon Empowerment. Walk, run, roll or waddle your way to 80km with us!
Join our group Mount Snowdon hike:
A group of inspirational fundraisers and travelling from across the country to tackle Wales' tallest mountain, Mount Snowdon (Eryri). We're setting off at 7am on Saturday 27th September. Fancy joining the team? Come along and join a mixed group of awesome people, fundraising our way to more empowered Ugandan communities.

Our work in 2025:
In 2025, Elgon Empowerment will be continuing to support our partnered communities in their empowerment of women and girls living in poverty.
By working with local leaders in rural Uganda, donations will be spent providing sewing machines, materials and comprehensive training for women, enabling them to produce their own reusable sanitary products and supply their communities.
This project empowers women and girls with knowledge, with skills and opportunity, but also helps foster economic independence. Through this work, we aim to create a sustainable, self-sufficient model that supplies localities with sanitary products, empowers women, and pursues our shared belief that every woman deserves to menstruate in safety.
Who are we?
I'm Jake, and I've been involved in community work in Uganda since 2019. As of this year I decided to make a long term ambition, a reality. I recruited talented leaders and together we formed Elgon Empowerment.
From an idea that began in an introverted kid's Uni hall, to an association which supports hundreds of women and girls. I'm unbelievably proud of how far this idea has come.
