The Junior League of London's 10th LBDI Campaign (2022)
For the tenth time, the Junior League of London is launching its #LBDI campaign to combat the effects of poverty in London. From 17 - 21 October 2022, campaigners will once again join together to raise awareness about the effects of poverty on our local community. Since LBDI began in 2014, the Campaign has spread to Junior Leagues around the world and has raised over $2 Million globally. These funds benefit the Junior League of London in our mission to advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Funds will benefit local community partners, the League's outreach, and volunteer training programs.
This year LBDI is anchored in London Challenge Poverty Week and the need for help is greater than ever. Poverty is deeply rooted in the UK, and millions of families across the country are struggling through financial hardship. Many more are being pushed below the breadline, as the cost of living crisis hits low-income households the hardest. A shocking 28% of people live in poverty in London (2.5 million) compared to 22% in the UK and the costs of living in London are 15-58% higher than in the rest of the UK, with single mothers and children as the most vulnerable group. Please join us in supporting community organisations across London during this pivotal time by donating to this year's LBDI Campaign.
We're shifting our emphasis from what we wear to what we do to better our community, and we have built flexibility into the campaign to allow each fundraiser to do what works best for them. So you might wear the same outfit all week, run a clothing drive, or simply wear the LBDI badge and advocate for the cause.
LBDI is a week-long, social media-driven fundraising campaign that raises awareness about poverty and its effects on women in society. Throughout the week, participants share posts on social media to drive online donations by raising awareness of the effects of poverty in London and how the JLL supports anti-poverty initiatives.
Participants raise awareness about the effects that poverty can have on an individual's access to resources including professional attire and the far-reaching toll this can take on confidence and professional opportunities. In the past LBDI campaigners wore a black dress each day of the campaign to highlight this. In 2022's tenth LBDI, we relaunched
the campaign to shift the emphasis from what we wear to what we do - the little things that can make a big difference. The overall aims of the campaign remain the same.
Since our first campaign, the LBDI has raised over £175,000 in London and the initiative has expanded to over 100 Junior Leagues across the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, collectively raising millions towards our global mission.
The positive impact of this global poverty initiative is a testament to the Junior League's mission to advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboratio and training.
