Place2Be is a children's mental health charity that works to improve the emotional wellbeing of children and young people. We help them to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues including bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma.

Story

Julie always adored children and they loved her back. She spent the majority of her 30 year teaching career as an outstanding Senco (the special educational needs co-ordinator) in a number of primary schools, predominantly located in challenging catchment areas.

Julie believed passionately that the provision of high quality mental health support within a school environment was a key factor in enabling children, particularly those from deprived backgrounds, to achieve their true potential.

This is why we are setting up the Juliet Garmoyle Fund, partnering Place2Be, as an important part of Julie's legacy. Place2Be is the UKs leading children's mental health charity working in schools, and one she really championed. The Juliet Garmoyle Fund will enable Place2Be to roll out its pioneering, and much needed, service to schools in the South West of England for the first time.

We will initially focus on schools in the most deprived towns and villages areas on the North Devon coast where our family house is located. This is also where Julie's ashes are buried, overlooking the sea. Our family have pledged a minimum of £1m, spread over the longer term, to get this initiative off to a meaningful start.

We would be immensely grateful for any support you feel able to provide to The Juliet Garmoyle Fund. Sustainability is one of the key aims of the fund, so we are particularly grateful for multi-year pledges, which will secure the future of the services in the schools we support. This will enable Place2Be to support children and young people's mental health, in a corner of England where the need has never been greater.

Thank you.
