Story

Support People Fleeing Conflict

The people of Ukraine are facing unimaginable suffering. The violence is escalating, with devastating loss of life. Please give what you can today and help us respond to this growing humanitarian crisis.

HOW YOUR DONATION COULD HELP

PROVIDE PEOPLE WITH ESSENTIALS : Your donation could help provide people with essential items like food, water and warm clothing.

HELP PEOPLE STAY HEALTHY: We hope to provide vulnerable families with hygiene equipment to keep themselves clean and safe from disease.

SUPPORT PARTNER ORGANISATIONS: Your donation means we can work with other organisations to help meet the needs of people who have already lost so much.

How we spend your money

For every £1 you donate to this emergency appeal, we will allocate 9p of your donation to cover general support and running costs. There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Oxfam projects wherever the need is greatest.

HOW WILL OXFAM BE RESPONDING?

Oxfam is working with partners in countries bordering Ukraine, including Moldova, Romania and Poland. These partners will lead on projects that Oxfam supports.

This means the people we support, who have fled the violence in Ukraine, will get the safety and resources they need to survive and rebuild their lives. Our partners aim to create a long-lasting positive impact at community-level too.

Partner organisations in countries people are fleeing to can adapt fast. So the changing needs of both those whove been forced to flee, and the communities who host them, can be met more quickly. This helps develop lasting solutions.

Our activities with partners currently range from:

Sharing information with refugees at border points and providing access to reliable information through hotlines and social media

Distributing the resources that people need to survive today, including food parcels and hygiene kits

Setting up handwashing stations and toilets, including ones that are accessible for people with disabilities, and showers.

Providing psycho-social support and advice to help people to deal with what they are going through.

Access to legal aid so that people arriving from Ukraine can receive support and learn about their rights.

Focusing on the needs of vulnerable groups and minorities, including Roma, LGBTQIA+, women travelling with young children and people with disabilities

What is the DEC? Oxfam is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). When disaster strikes in a place that doesn't have the capacity to respond, the DEC brings together 15 UK charities to raise funds together fast. Appeals are launched during times of large scale suffering, as in Ukraine. Donations made during the DEC appeal go to each of the 15 member charities. These charities then work together with people in disaster struck places through their own operations in each affected area.

Take Action for Refugees

Right now in Ukraine - and the world over - people are being forced to flee conflict and persecution, and leave behind all they have. The world's refugees have a right to safety, and to live their lives in peace.

The UK government has responded to help some of those fleeing from Ukraine, but this crisis shows it's time to rethink the deeply damaging policies that have left people with no safe place to go and rebuild their lives.

The UK government's 'hostile environment' refugee policy needs to change now. Urge Home Secretary Priti Patel to protect, not punish, refugees.
