Our vision is for a world in which every mitochondrial disease patient has a voice and access to treatment, support to improve their life and, ultimately, a cure.

Story

The Great North Run is an iconic running event. Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne the route takes runners through the city centre towards the River Tyne, across the iconic Tyne Bridge continuing through Gateshead and South Shields.

Did you know every day in the UK a baby is born who will develop mitochondrial disease? Each member of Team Lily will be running for them and the 10 million people in the UK who suffer from diseases in which mitochondrial dysfunction is believed to be involved. This disease is debilitating, there is no cure and lives are cut far too short. The Lily Foundation's aim is to one day find a cure for mito. As the UK's leading charity dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease, our mission is to support people whose lives are affected by the condition, raise awareness and fund research into its prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Please support our 2021 Great North Run Team and together we will make a difference.
