Running for the "Same Team": Honoring Captain John "Bag" Hefti, USN

Every step taken this Shamrock Marathon Weekend honors the man who lived by the motto: "Play Hard, Have Fun, Same Team."

Captain John "Bag" Hefti, USN (ret.), was a decorated Naval Aviator, TOPGUN grad, and a passionate youth coach. John knew that the field was the best classroom, teaching kids critical life skills like leadership, teamwork, and integrity. Following his tragic passing in 2021, his legacy lives on through Bag's Buddies.

We ensure his positive impact continues in Hampton Roads through two core missions:

1. Scholarships: We award the Captain John "Bag" Hefti Memorial Scholarship to scholar-athletes who demonstrate John's commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and selfless service.

2. Universal Access: We eliminate financial and infrastructure barriers that keep kids from participating. Your donation provides gear, facility access, and opportunities for every child to experience the vital lessons of being on a team.
