Running the Lap for Cartmel Primary Goes Wild
We have a team that have volunteered to run 'The Lap' on Saturday 11th May to raise funds for Cartmel Primary School's grounds project. Claire Welburn (Parent) Tom Holman (Governor), Helen Bennett (Parent) and Emma Benson (Alumni).
The Lap is 47 mile Ultra Marathon around Windermere -this is a huge challenge. 47 miles on muddy trails, tricky descents - not to mention 2000m of elevation to navigate. It is not for the faint hearted. The team have been training for months in preparation for this massive undertaking, a true test of endurance, mental and physical strength.
Please help them along their way by sponsoring them - knowing they are doing this to raise money for a great cause will help spur them along when things get tough.
We wish our runners the very best of luck :)
The Project
The current playground at Cartmel CofE Primary School is very plain and dull expanse of tarmac with very little to inspire play or learning. The playground is described as ‘concrete jungle’ by staff, they a liken it to an inner-city playground and not at all in keeping with its beautiful setting the school sits in. One child in class 2 commented that ‘the playground is dull, lots of concrete – trees and grass would be good’ and another said, ‘we need to upgrade the playground’.
The school wants to transform our school grounds into vibrant spaces that ignite curiosity, inspire learning, and promote green initiatives. Our goal is to reimagine our outdoor areas, create more green spaces for learning and play with a strong emphasis on the environment, sustainability, and the well-being of our children.
The new playground will include:
- Softer surfacing
- Larger car park for 12 cars
- Playground equipment
- Woodland walkway
- Amphitheatre
- Kitchen garden, greenhouse and picnic area
- Outdoor shelters
The project is a large undertaking for a small school. We have decided to divide into 6 manageable phases. This will allow us to deliver the project with minimal disruption to the staff, pupils, and the village. Our full project will cost £565k to deliver. Phase One is a standalone phase which will cost £161k of which over £80k has already been pledged.
Your support with this local project would be much appreciated, please donate what you can and help our dreams become a reality.
