Our story
This September an amazing team of ten runners will tackle the Great North Run to keep a very special project alive at the Great North Children’s Hospital. For five years, Durham Cricket Foundation coaches have been bringing cricket-based games and activities onto the wards, turning long days of treatment into moments of fun, friendship and confidence-building for young patients - children who often spend weeks or months away from home.
Why the project matters
A simple activity session can bring joy, confidence, and a sense of normality to children spending long days on the ward.
Proven impact: The project has doubled the number of children it reaches - Durham Cricket Foundation now delivers for two days each week, yet demand continues to grow. Your support helps us meet that demand.
Real voices: “Thanks to your competitive, enjoyable and genuine sessions you have not only made me enjoy cricket... but helped my recovery massively.” – Patient testimonial.
About the Great North Children’s Hospital
One of only 14 major children’s medical centres in the UK, the hospital cares for 32,000 young in-patients every year and is renowned for its world-class treatment and family support.
Durham Cricket Foundation is proud to be part of that care, offering children a highlight to look forward to each week.
