The IMS Foundation takes the biggest challenges facing Nepal & seeks out the most extraordinary grassroot organisations who are working to catalyse real change in the country.
Our partner in the small fishing village of Nkope, on the banks of Lake Malawi is an intimate and humble organisation that has steadily built a wonderful relationship and reputation in the community. The villagers have only ever asked for one thing: To Learn. In this way the Naturally Africa Foundation projects are all based around capacity building, teaching the skills needed to create effective education structures, medical instituations and sustainable farming.
The agricultural land is a testing ground for crops and farming techniques that can stand up to the rigours of Climate Change. With this information and training, we can effectively support all the families in the region diversify their subsistence farms to improve the consistency of yields and the variety of the diets to combat the chronic malnutrition.
As one of the worlds poorest countries with a dependence on subsistence farming the nation is hugely impacted by the changing climate conditions. Not only this, but agriculutre amounts to 80% of total export revenue - when weather conditions change, the country will struggle on a number of fronts.
With over 80% of the 18 million population living in rural areas and 53% living below the poverty line there is little resilience to external pressures including the inherent challenges of being a landlocked country. But, with an Impact Marathon, we try not to talk about challenges in a negative context but we like to focus on the positive empowerment that can happen in what is a truly remarkable, beautiful and wonderfully friendly nation
. In this way, the funds we raise will be going towards a truly groundbreaking project. We will be creating a fish farm and permaculture homestead that will be a testing ground for new, resilient crops and farming techniques that creates a blueprint for all the families in the community to farm sustainably despite the creeping impact of Climate Change. The new crops will lead to diversified diets that will tackle both Global Goal 2 - Zero Hunger & Global Goal 3 - Good Health & Well-Being. This is capacity building at it's most powerful...
