Story

Billy Watson, Chief Executive of SAMH, said: "We are excited to launch this fantastic new partnership with the Co-op, which will help communities come together to improve mental wellbeing across Scotland and beyond. We know that connecting with others, access to the right support and looking after your own mental and physical health are just some of the factors that can benefit mental wellbeing.

"Working with one of Scotlands biggest retailers and funeral operators is an excellent opportunity to help communities make positive changes, and we thank the Co-op for recognising the importance."

SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) is Scotland's largest mental health charity and believe there is no health without mental health. SAMH has represented the voices of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for more than 90 years. SAMH is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances

SAMH currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland supporting people through recovery-focused community services which provide mental health social care support, addictions and employment services, among others. These services - together with national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, and sport and physical activity - inform SAMH's policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

The Co-op have also partnered with mental health charities Mind (England and Wales) and Inspire (Northern Ireland). To save costs, Mind is leading on sending out materials (like t-shirts and cans), and will deal with general fundraising enquiries. In due course, SAMH will have a dedicated staff member to support Scottish Co-op stores in fundraising, who could possibly even come out to visit the store for a wee photograph or two. In the meantime, please get in touch with coop@mind.org.uk if you need materials or advice.
