Story

Forget Me Notts: Martin & Derrie

Before Forget Me Notts, we hadn’t long had Derrie’s diagnosis and we were going through the medical options, without knowing much about the care, respite and stimulation. We felt isolated. This changed once we got involved at FMN for both of us as it gave us a purpose and acted as a springboard to other events. We both get so much out of the sessions and have met so many amazing people. It is part of our weekly structure and not once has Derrie said she doesn’t want to attend. She enjoys the activities, some of which she has never done before, and enjoys catching up with others. As a carer, it gives me a purpose, some respite and allows me to interact with others. I feel less alone when I’m attending. To summarise in 3 words is hard, however, caring, helpful and fun. The fact that FMN is constantly evolving is down to everyone involved and that we are all working towards a common goal of helping vulnerable, lonely people in our community. I know there are going to be even more special events this year and that is great for everyone. Thank you for all you do at Trent Bridge Community Trust.

Notts in Mind: Anne-Marie

Before Notts in Mind, I struggled with confidence in myself and wasn’t sure who I was. I was a people pleaser and struggled to have boundaries, forgetting about myself. I felt that I had no real friends and blamed myself for this. I put others before myself and I did a lot for other people but didn’t acknowledge my own needs. I was overweight and eating all the wrong foods and doing little exercise. Since joining, my dizziness has gone and I feel stronger physically. The exercise has increased my strength and fitness and enjoyment of life. I feel grounded and more in the present. I have realised that I am quite creative and expressive and love dance. I am beginning to try other interest groups and meet new people. I am branching out and feel so much more confident in myself. I am eating a healthier diet and have not needed to visit my GP for anything in the last couple of years. I am feeling more positive and much more willing to have a go at new things. I attend both sessions and now also bring my Autistic daughter, who is benefiting greatly. She absolutely loves the physical fitness and I can see her gradually improving in her mental health. After going through a major setback with her OCD, Notts in Mind has given her a purpose and a way back to recovery. Her anxiety just melts away. The sessions allow us to do something really enjoyable, together.
