The Daisy Garland is a charity working exclusively for children and families whose lives have been touched by drug-resistant epilepsy. Set up in 2004 in memory of our daughter, Daisy, we provide positive support for some of the 18,000 children in the UK who suffer from drug-resistant epilepsy.

Story

Our daughter, Daisy, died in her sleep 3 days after her 6th birthday from SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy). We didn’t have an epilepsy monitor, neither did we know they even existed.

Twenty years ago, and to keep Daisy's memory alive, myself and my husband David set up The Daisy Garland charity, offering parents of children with drug-resistant epilepsy the help and support we so badly needed, but didn’t have, when Daisy was with us.

One of our many projects is our Reducing the Risk of SUDEP Programme, funding night time breathing (SATs/epilepsy) monitors which is helping keep over 1,000 babies and children safe while they sleep. They each have a monitor that alarms when it detects seizure activity, or when a child stops breathing. These monitors save lives, but are not available on the NHS for home use.

The monitors are expensive, but they are worth their weight in gold, keeping children safe and allowing careworn parents the gift of safe sleep. It costs £880 to fund a SATs monitor and £455 to fund an epilepsy monitor.

We have a growing waiting list of 50+ babies and children whose families are desperate for these life-saving monitors, but we can only help as many families as funds allow. Hence the reason why Nikki, Sarah and myself are dusting off our walking boots in the hope of raising enough to fund at least 3 epilepsy monitors. More if possible! Along the way we’ll be meeting three of the lovely Mum's we support - Maxine, Jane and Ella, who are also undertaking The Bath 50 Ultra Challenge, in support of our work.

I should mention we are a small charity. An office-based team of just 4, and that includes me. We all love what we do, we know our families well and we work incredibly hard to help them. Above all, our work is life-changing and life saving. Our work is making a REAL difference.

The Daisy Garland do not receive any government funding. So in order to do our work we rely 100% on the kindness and generosity of people like YOU.

Every penny YOU donate will help keep a child with drug-resistant epilepsy safe while they sleep.

Thank you for your support. It means the absolute world to us and more 💜
