We support people diagnosed with BBS, their parents, carers, and siblings as well as professionals involved in all aspects of the care and support of people with BBS in the UK. We are a user-led organisation, represented by adults with Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) and parents of children with BBS.

Story

The BBS UK baton has travelled through Scotland, is currently moving through Ireland, and will be under our care in England any day now!

Together we plan to virtually 'Carry the Gene' from Land's End to John O'Groats - our target? 2000 miles and £10,000!

We are asking you to help support families living with Bardet-Biedl syndrome, by covering some meters or miles, any way you choose, however you are able. We'll be doing our bit throughout the summer, with the baton reaching its final resting place in Lands End in (we think - date TBC) July.

This is an inclusive challenge and we can't wait to see the different ways you tackle it. Not everyone can run a marathon's-worth, and lots of us will do it virtually. We're asking you to do something active, and cover a measurable distance; be it laps of your garden, steps measured by your pedometer, or miles on the road bike. Simple!

You can collect sponsors the old-fashioned way and click the red, Give Now button to send the money over to us or click the orange Start Fundraising button (points upwards), to create your own fundraising page.

Brownie points for the most innovative way of approaching the challenge virtually and as ever, sharing is caring! If you can't get involved physically, please click 'Share' and tell your family and friends about BBS UK and the amazing work we do.

THANK YOU

How to do it:

Here are some examples of wonderful fundraising ideas

- Tracking steps on a Fitbit throughout June. Aiming for 300,000 steps in a month and asking for sponsorship from friends and family only payable if I reach my target. £5/£10 suggested donations.

- Laps in a day. Walking my local footie field, playing field, or any circular walk on a given date. Suggesting £1 per lap. Friends bringing refreshments enthusiastically encouraged.

- Swimming laps? As above. Bring cake.

- Cycling or walking. A pub-to-pub crawl. Strictly soft drinks. £2 per pub visited on a defined route.

- That huge hill! Has anyone done the Shepherd and Dog in Fulking up to Devil's Dyke walk? Easily worth a tenner!

When to do it

Anytime between now and the baton arriving in Land's End, but if you want to do something later, that's cool too!

Getting sponsors

Use the Just Giving campaign page or make your own via the Start Fundraising button.

Ask! There's no better way to get people to sponsor you than a simple ask. That can be on your social media profiles, or in person. Ask your boss, your mum, and your mates!

Sharing

Ask everyone to share with their networks. You can share our campaign page or make your own fundraising page.

Shares are so important, helping us to reach more people and our stretching target of £10,000!
