Story
Last year, I convinced my brother Sam, my cousin Will, and my friend Harry to take on a 26-mile trek across the Peak District. Together, we raised an incredible £2,397 for the Alzheimer's Society.
This year, our team has grown. We've managed to rally my mum (Jenny), my aunt (Emily), two more cousins (Alex and Josh), my sister (Emma), and my brother's girlfriend (Sarah) to join us for a trek across the North York Moors. That makes ten of us in total, all walking for the same cause.
Dementia has touched every one of us personally. Our grandfather sadly passed away from the illness, and our grandma is currently living with dementia too. Watching someone you love slowly forget the people and moments that once meant everything to them is one of the hardest things a family can go through. Hoping that a loved one will remember your name is a prayer no family should have to make — and it's this experience that drives us to raise at least £5,000 for the Alzheimer's Society this year.
The Alzheimer's Society does extraordinary work, supporting people with dementia and their families through some of their darkest days, while also funding vital research toward better treatments, prevention, and ultimately a cure. It's this combination of compassionate care and hope for the future that makes this walk mean so much to us.
Whatever you're able to give will mean more to us than words can express, as we take these 26 miles together in the hope of a future without dementia.
